B's Complete Car History, a Retrospective
My first car. Ahhh, the memories. This one was light blue and had a front that tried to mimic the BMWs of its time. It looked pretty much like the picture, except no one with a cheesy mustache was allowed to drive my car. This really was a good little car – fast, good handling, and reliable. It had some funky pre-combustion chamber thingy in it which allowed it to use a richer mixture just around the spark plugs but a leaner mixture in general. This allowed it to get well over forty miles per gallon even when you drove it full-tilt most of the time. My friend used to say it was gas-o-phobic. The only downside to this technology was that before it warmed up, you had about 20hp, so you were dead meat if you tried to pull out in traffic on a cold, winter morning. It only had two major failures: a blown head gasket and a blown break master cylinder. Both of these faults, I'm pretty sure, were the direct result of me driving everywhere as if my hair was on fire.

This made for some surprising times at red-lights for both me and the people behind me. I put a bright red bulb in the dash and wired it to the reverse lights to let me know when I was about to be stupid. The Scirocco was more-or-less totaled while I was playing in the snow. I was killing time, waiting for my friend to get off work, just dicking around in the parking lot. This probably wasn't the smartest thing to do in a front-wheeled car with bald tires. I hit a curb at 5mph. That was enough...
