PostHeaderIcon Two wheels of terror…

I started something in my last post. Okay, I commented on something. I’m going to carry that on just a little bit here. It’s Sunday morning, 9:25 am and it looks quite nice out. There’s music blasting out from upstairs and I’ve got my earphones in place again. There’s that music thing again, I told you that I listen to music a lot when I do stuff like this.

Right, I’m gonna stick with my plan. Two wheels of terror. They’re not actually, what I’m referring to of course are motorcycles and why I do what I do. I started riding bikes when I was about 18, I think that’s when I started. I needed transport for work and my mate Colin had a Honda CB125 at the time and I seemed to be quite impressed with it. It didn’t quite dawn on me then that these bikes would get me into all sorts of scrapes, I got into it simply because of a need.

My first bike was a Honda ST70, which was bought from Slocombes in Neasden. That little bike and me would end up travelling all over the place and I even blew it up (I became a member of the piston broke club) but the little hero still ran and got me home.  The ST had a 3 speed auto gearbox, no clutch and it was just amazing, but as our travels went further, I had to change the bike, it was just too much for the little thing. So the time came to change and move onto something larger.

That came in the shape of a blue Honda CB250N Superdream. It was blue when I bought it, but by the time I came to give it away, it was black and had and exhaust on it that was so loud, I got nicked and fined £50 for the pleasure of it. This bike got me through my test, throwing my L plates away and our journeys now took us all over the country. We mostly visited race circuits and the very first was Brands Hatch in Kent. I went camping on it, I went out for a ride one late Saturday night and ended up in Cardiff very early on the Sunday morning and this was before I’d passed my test, so using the A4o and getting slightly lost, running out of petrol and sleeping in a hedge with my bike as company was just brilliant! So, as my experiences with bikes began to take off, my want for something bigger began as well. We’d go racing most weekends, the venue could’ve been anywhere and we’d go. However, one too many trip down to Epsom saw the bike start the road to getting kicked out and replaced by something huge in comparison. The Superdream’s cam chain tensioner had broke and was flapping around inside the engine block and her power was disappearing, not that it had that much to start with, so now it was time to change, move up and things took on a whole new game.
