to say the past few days have been hectic is an understatement
I’m staring at the computer right now trying to figure out where to start. also trying to figure out the soundtrack to my writing. we’ve been discussing brand new and northstar and all the old bands i listen to but i think it’ll be something more recent…. andrew bird.
anyways let’s start with washington D.C. 9:30 club. hands down the best club we’ve ever played. they do everything exactly how it should be done. plus i got to go to ben’s chili bowl and have an amazing chili cheese half smoke. oh man. the club makes you cupcakes. they have great help, it’s a great room, and the crowd was amazing. after that night i felt like prettty much any show was gonna be a let down.
the next night was new york. i don’t know if i’ve mentioned it but new york city, in their finest decision ever, decided that it would be illegal for buses to pull trailers into the city. yaaay new york. so the options are: a) you rent a truck and unload the gear from your trailer in the morning, put it into the truck, drive the truck into the city, unload it, and then do the reverse at the end of the night, b) pay someone $ to drive the trailer into the city and out for you, c) risk it but if you get caught its a huge fine and they don’t let you move until another vehicle comes to move the trailer. well scheduling wise, and also through an act of kindness, we decided to fork over the money to get the trailer pulled into and out of the city. Well load in was scheduled for 3 pm. with soundcheck to start at 5 pm. 3 pm… no trailer. 3:30…. no trailer. finally at 4:20 pm the trailer shows up and we bust our butts to get everything set up. normally i plan 2-3 hours, we did it in just over an hour. we got checked and then i sent the band out to visit with the business folks from the label. the show though, went great. one of the best new york crowds we’d ever had. they were crazy and fun. out to new jersey, pick up the trailer and off we went to norfolk virginia for a 12 noon load in.
