A few weeks ago I went up to Scotland to go paddling for a week on a trip run by Rob & Mark from Elements, there were 8 of us on the trip and I knew a few of the people and met 3 new people and I had a fantastic weeks paddling, staying in lovely accommodation and being fed very well 3 meals a day.
Yes I paid to go on it, yes it was worth every penny.
Here are some of my thoughts from my scribbled notes at the end of each day with photos to go with them. A lot of the photos are mine, some may be from Rob, Mark, Chris K, Charlie, Bonita, Jeff, Ian, Richard, or Jane, so thanks to them as well for the photos and the company.
Friday 9 –
Lower Garry Interesting line on first rapid following someone else when I should have known better.В Small delay while various bits of kit collected, as I was not the only person to have a brief out of boat experience.В True North bag kept everything dry, as expected. Good bit of kit, same with Watershed camera bag, both items worth the money. Short section of river and another couple of rapids later someone in the group parted company with their boat, which ended up in a tree at the top of a rapid. Everyone decided to call it a day and we recovered the boat with minor marks to show for its adventure, Venture prospectors seem to be pretty tough boats and paddle well. Could be tempted to sell the Wenonah and buy one of these. The value of a few bits of simple quality kit, saw, rope, etc, and knowledge of getting boats recovered (Rob) and we had the boat out in 10 mins. Rob and I paddled the rest of the river to where it joins Loch Oich then up the loch to get the vehicles and go collect the group. Lots of fires on the mountaintops near Fort William on the way home. Back for chilli, nachos, and cold beer.
