Audi shocks Detroit with third e-tron electric supercar concept

The 2010 North American International Auto Show (aka the Detroit Auto Show) just kicked off its press days and among the many debuts on day one, Audi pulled the cover off a new version of its e-tron electric supercar. The German automaker has now shown three different e-tron electric car concepts starting with the red R8-like car in Frankfurt. At the Los Angeles show they had a slightly revised version, repainted a not-so-flattering orange. As nice as those concepts were, the latest iteration unveiled in Detroit is arguably the most attractive.
Just as wide but a bit shorter than its predecessors, the newest e-tron takes the R8 look and blends in a bit of the company’s sleek A5/S5 coupe. Better yet, the company has pared the concept’s curb weight by 550 pounds through the use of an aluminum spaceframe and several carbon fiber bits in the body. The 2,976-pound e-tron 3.0 is still powered by a quartet of electric motors, each driving its own wheel. While horsepower isn’t particularly impressive at 204 ponies, those electric motors produce a whopping 1,955 pound-feet of torque (to the wheels). That’s enough to scoot the e-tron to 60 from a standstill in a tick under six seconds. A lighter foot on the throttle and you’ll be able to go pretty far on a single charge too. Range after an 11-hour, 230-volt energy drink is claimed to be 155 miles.
Audi repeated that they expect to have a production version of the e-tron on sale by the end of 2012. This most recent concept is the best indicator yet of what that production EV will look like, but Audi is promising it won’t be the only e-tron in the lineup. How much should I expect to spend (parts and labor) to have my alternator replaced in a 2002 BMW 325i?
Found battery dead. After jumping and driving for 40min and turning off, battery still completely dead. While driving, a new, strange, and scary sound began. Sounds like a really loud snapping at irregular intervals. Akin to a small tension-loaded gear or spring releasing sharply against another object.
Are we talking alternator? If so, how much?
Your problem could be just a internal regulator /brush pack assy. on the alternator. If so Brush packs are very resonably priced. If your car has the 2.5 liter L 6 engine there are two alternators one is 120 amperes "BMW"s recomended list price is 690 dollars if you have the 90 amp list price is 499.00.... The book time recomended to replace this unit is 1.3 hour. But you will be charged for diagnosis also. Beings that I am a European car mechanic . I would suggest taking this car to a tech that is familiar with BMW,Volvo,Saab,Audi,VW etc. If they buy Bosch products on a regular basis its very good. Dont ever tell a mechanic what you think is wrong with a car . Help him to fix your car as quicky and as cheeply as posible. By just telling them symptoms . Last note , this is a good car though some might think parts are expencive for it. I would invest in this car due to its reliability and quality. I just sold I 1996 325 w/ 282,000 miles that was traded in on the purchase of a Volvo even at 282k I would have liked to own this car. Good luck happy motoring. Oh one more thing these prices are DLR list on new parts A quality rebuilt Alternator from Bosch Will be much less about 300 . I recomend Bosch rebuilds as I dont like to pay a towing bill again to replace a part I already installed once before. Oh and one more thing ,lol. The voltage regulator list is 100 and book gives 1.5 hrs to replace it.I always inspect bruches and check alternator "ripple" wave form on a "scope" before condeming a Alternator. Also Ground wires on this alternator are known to break causeing same symptoms. ;-)

Gordon gases it up for Dakar
Raised on the ovals of NASCAR and the wild airborne antics of the Baja 1000, Gordon has taken to Dakar racing with fervour. Finishing third in 2009 with his rear-wheel drive Hummer, Gordon has attracted the American market to the biggest and most dangerous race in the world.
I sat down with Gordon after Day Nine and asked him if he ever takes his foot off the throttle.
"Yes and no," the genial American said.
"I think at the end of the day we try to do the best job we can."
Despite the efforts of Volkswagen factory pilot Mark Miller, the Dakar was a largely unknown in the US until Gordon started getting results, but the 41-year-old says he knew how important the Dakar is and was drawn to it from an early stage.
"I won the Baja and the championship in America and I feel like in America we're the best team there so I felt like I had to come here and race against the best teams in the world," he explained.
