If I were ambitious, I’d write a book. When you think about it, only having lived 26 years so far, I’ve managed to go from an honor society student about to be the first doctor in her family (and consequently get out of a life of teetering on the poverty line) to a  homeless partial homeowning (inherited) college graduate with a mountain of debt/student loans and a complicated per diem job that just barely buys me the gas to get there (and to my sister) every week. But I’m bubbling with enthusiasm as I continue my search for full time, sustainable work, as I am eager to be able to afford the things that most people take for granted. Yes, I have a car. A wonderful travelling home that faithfully carries my worldly possessions through all sorts of unpredicatable New England weather. Without this used and very abused Subaru forester I’d be lost (…I’ve been promising him an oil change for more miles than I count!) . Amazingly, we have survived many long distance trips and off-road parking breaks without a spare tire in tow. Here’s the catch- I can no longer afford the car insurance or car payments. And at any given time, the person that has been making the payments for me could decided to just leave me hanging, carless. I agree, they would have every right to. But it’s something that creeps up in the back of my mind during those insomniac nights. Almost all of the things in my life right now, are out of my control.  However, the greatest thing has resulted from this. Faith. Stripped of everything else, forced to be dependent on other people, all that is left is faith. The two most stable things right now turn out to be God and my cell phone (both thanks to a good friend!). I have such great respect for those that survive on so much less, who spend their days and nights with nothing more than a bag full of possessions.
