PostHeaderIcon RVing in Denver – January 13

The caverns of the Denver Convention Center echoed back our conversation as we walked into the annual Denver RV show. There was hardly anyone there – we had the place to ourselves.

It was almost as if they had brought all these RVs together in one place, from the big busses to the pop-up campers, just for our own personal showing. Unless you were looking at the Roadtrek class B motorhomes.

Their display was always busy with people, and we went back three times.

The downside to having our own personal RV showroom to tour is that the manufacturer’s reps we had hoped to connect with were not there. Seems they don’t arrive till Friday and stay through the weekend. (They must be the heavy lumber to approve big discount deals.) So the folks we talked with were sales folks who work at the Colorado RV dealers.

Not all bad, because we had their undivided attention. We peppered them with questions for all the information we needed to figure out which class, model, and brand we want for the Tour.

We were fortunate in meeting two factory reps – one from Roadtrek (which makes the class B RV we are interested in) and one from a company called TrailManor , which makes really cool pop-ups. Based in Tennessee, these folks make truly amazing pop-ups.

To be clear, here are photos of the classes of RV products.

Pop-ups – ranging from small camper-type to hard cover sleeps 8. You pull them behind a vehicle as a trailer, drive into a campsite, pop it up, and you are camping. The one shown here is a hardwall pop-up. We watched this get opened up, less than 2 minutes, and boy, was it roomy. Great product.

Class B – these are converted vans on a fairly large wheelbase. Newest product line in RVing, their popularity is based on two factors. First, they drive like a van/car, and two, they get great gas mileage, as in 20 mpg on a diesel engine. Very pricey for what you get in terms of space and functionality.
