KCT Weekly: Frozen Fenway highlights light week of conference games
The attention of college hockey fans everywhere shifts to Fenway Park on Friday, when storied Commonwealth Avenue foes, Boston College and Boston University, resume their rivalry inside America’s Most Beloved Ballpark as part of the Sun Life Frozen Fenway doubleheader. That matchup highlights a light week of Hockey East action, which features four of six games to be featured on television. New Hampshire enters the week in first place with an 8-2-2-conference record for 18 points. The Wildcats are coming off of a tough 5-2 loss against Cornell on Sunday. UNH looks to get back in the win column against UMASS-Lowell on Friday and border rival Massachusetts the following night at Whittemore Center. #7 Boston College resumes conference play with a 7-3-2 HEA record for 16 points, which adds up to second place. BC went 0-2 at the Wells Fargo Denver Cup this past weekend, as they fell to St. Lawrence, 5-3, and to Denver, 4-3. The Eagles will face archrival Boston University at Fenway Park on Friday. #18 Maine enters 2010 with a 7-4-1 record for 15 points and third place. The Black Bears took the Florida College Classic title with 3-2 wins over Princeton (in a shootout) and Colorado College. Maine gets back to work against Merrimack on Friday, as their exhibition game this Saturday was postponed. #16 Massachusetts holds the final home ice position with a 6-5-0-conference record for 12 points. UMASS was the runner-up in the Toyota UCONN Classic, as they beat Union, 4-3, but fell 4-1 against Bentley. The Mass Attack also got smoked, 7-3, at Boston University on Saturday. The Minutemen return to the ice on Saturday at New Hampshire and at Northeastern on Sunday. #14 UMASS-Lowell sits in fifth with a 5-4-1 record and 11 points.
