This past weekend was ridiculous. And I’m not just saying that because “ridiculous” is the most repeated word in my vocabulary.
WVU is going to the Final Four for the first time since the good ol’ Jerry West days–50 years ago. The game is going to be in Indianapolis, probably a 6 and 1/2 hour drive from Morgantown, 5 from Parkersburg. I could totally do that, right? And WVU has student tickets? Oh man, how exciting.
Waittttt, wait a second. Do you hear that? It’s adulthood knocking on the door, and she isn’t going away.
As part of my weekend, I also bought a new car. And when I say new, I mean a 9-year old 80,000 mile used one. But it’s in pretty good shape.
Before I settled on this one, with it’s working air conditioner and non-duct taped passenger doors, I entertained the idea of getting a new car. And by that I mean a one-year old maybe 10,000 mile car. Yeah. Some car dealerships have a $4000 minimum trade in, which sounds like a great idea, right? It was looking good. The more I thought about having a shiny new car that looked prettyandohmanhowlookhownew, the more it sounded like the best idea in the world.
I even went in to sign the papers. The salesman did the credit check, and, as most not coincidentally, said that since I didn’t have bad credit but just didn’t have a lot of credit, I would probably need a co-signer.
I could have done this, but seriously, if I have to bring someone else into the equation of buying a car, then I probably shouldn’t be buying a new one in the first place. I would have made sure the payments were made, but it would have taken me 5 years to pay off the loan.В Which again, would have been fine if I planned on having a “real” job next year after graduating, but seeing as how I have NO CLUE what I’m doing in 12 months, adding more debt to the mountainous pile of student loans already looming over my head (and let me tell you, that is pretty high). Although I would like to point out that that is the only debt I have, as I don’t own any credit cards or store cards, hence the little credit.
